Challenge + Support = Success

The Music Department at Edge Hill State School is second to none. Both our Senior Concert Band and Senior String Ensemble took home Gold Awards in the recent regional heats of the Department of Education’s Fanfare Festival.
Fanfare is a state-wide biennial festival of primary and secondary school bands and orchestras. Established in 1985 and growing from only 106 participating ensembles to 982 in 2016, Fanfare celebrates, encourages and promotes excellence through performance.
We have exceptionally skilled instrumental teachers, with credits as professional musicians, delivering high quality instruction to Edge students. These teachers also conduct our performance ensembles and in their competent hands our students achieve success in competition year after year. We are very grateful to Mr John Christodoulides and Mr Simon McMenamin for their support and encouragement of our student musicians and dedication to our ensemble groups.
The team supporting these hardworking instrumental teachers is also deserving of recognition and respect. Opportunities to perform in festivals such as Fanfare enhances instrumental music program learning and gives real world experience to students. Organising our participation in events like these takes enormous effort and energy.
Parents too play a role in our student’s success. Ensuring instrumental practise is prioritised at home and delivering students to early morning rehearsals and weekend performance commitments is an invaluable part of kids learning and achieving in music. We thank every parent who invests in these experiences for their children.
We look forward to learning if our gold award winning ensembles are invited to perform at the State level of Fanfare competition in August once again. Our 2016 participation was an incredible experience for participants. There are many more opportunities to compete and to perform this year however and we are confident our students will continue to work hard and achieve at their very best.
