English is Easy at Edge Hill State School
This term marked the start of a new initiative at Edge Hill State School coordinated by our English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) teacher, Christine Vernon. We offer Easy English classes for parents from diverse backgrounds. Every Tuesday morning parents for whom English is a second language join a class, share morning tea and engage in conversation.
More than 20% of our student body identifies as EAL/D. They come from all parts of the world. These children and their parents have often achieved well in their first language. To live and learn in Australia these individuals adopt a new culture and it takes many years to master Standard Australian English.
The aim of our Easy English program is to provide instruction in a relaxed environment and to build confidence. With improved language skills, parents will support their children’s learning journey and communicate effectively with the school. Weekly lessons explore daily activities such as, food preparation, shopping and dress, developing confidence in ordinary settings.
Places are limited so bookings are required. For more information contact Edge Hill State School or email Christine Vernon at cvern3@eq.edu.au
