PRIME-ARY Lane Competition Highlights Our School's Creativity

We value community partnerships at The Edge. So, when the good people from PRIME Construction gave schools in the region the chance to contribute artworks for public display we sprang to arty action. The local design and construction company leading the initiative has secured unprecedented construction opportunities in our great city including an iconic hotel development at 85 The Esplanade.

At the Esplanade location the company has erected a public walkway for pedestrians to safely pass the project site for the duration of the build.  The stark white public lane was in need of some colour and vibrancy so PRIME, together with 360° Marketing devised the PRIME-ARY Lane School Artwork Competition. The Department of Education and Cairns Regional Council have endorsed the initiative and the Cairns Post is also collaborating to promote the competition and facilitate an online Reader’s Choice Award.

Thirty-nine primary schools from Gordonvale to Port Douglas and east to Kuranda were invited to contribute a 2.4 x 1.2 metre panel for display. The panels will be mounted vertically along the laneway walls. The only creative direction given was that the panel design and artwork needed to reflect our unique region and lifestyle. PRIME are also offering a $5000 cash prize for the school judged to have the best artwork.

Our students were excited to put paint to ply, thrilled to know their creative endeavours will be viewed by thousands of locals and tourists while construction takes place at 85 The Esplanade. Working on the mural during lunch breaks in our awesome Art Room the outcome is a beautiful piece of art and an experience participating students can cherish for life.
