Sharing Sustainability

We had a fantastic turnout for the first Edge Hill Sustainable Living Kitchen Garden Program - Family Working Bee for 2018 on Saturday 28 April. Now in its third year, we are very proud of this program and the skills and knowledge it delivers our students.

It has already been a busy and engaging year for the Sustainable Living Program. We recently launched a Recipe Book featuring student photography and recipe designs from the 2017 cohort and students from this year’s cohort have hit the ground running in the kitchen and garden. The message of sustainability is one we hope will stay with participants for their entire lives informing their actions now and as adults.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this program is the way it engages parents and carers as well as students and staff. We are incredibly grateful to all the people who came along to help on the first working bee of the year. Many hands made light work of clearing garden beds, cultivating soil, planting seedlings and installing irrigation. Teams even completed signage for our garden beds to help identify crops.

Our Sustainable Living Program connects the whole school community and the collective effort during the working bee is appreciated by all. We have now conquered the quick growing weeds and hope our fragile young seedlings will have the chance now to become mature plants and produce a bountiful crop for future harvest.
