Learn in paradise
Edge Hill State School is an attractive, well-resourced school with more than one thousand current enrolments. The school has grown significantly over more than seventy-five years valuing equality, sustainability, respect for all and the pursuit of excellence. Our immaculately maintained facilities are located amid natural green spaces in an inner suburb of the dynamic regional city of Cairns in Far North Queensland, Australia.
Our small city enjoys a permanent population of approximately 150 000 people however the town can host in excess of 2 million visitors annually from around Australia and abroad. Cairns is a tropical tourist destination unlike many others, known as a gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and UNESCO World Heritage Listed Daintree Rainforest. People from across the globe are drawn to the region and as such our residents are culturally diverse. The school reflects the multi-cultural population of our region.
Learn in preparation
Our school vision clearly states our intention to educate leaders of the future in an environment that both challenges and supports. We aim to prepare students to live in and contribute to a sustainable global economy. We are committed to educating children academically, socially, emotionally and physically. We hope learners from Edge Hill State School will be adaptable problem solvers, environmentally responsible and capable of dealing with the demands of their lives today and in the future.

We place a strong emphasis on the core values of safety, responsibility and respect and encourage a positive approach to learning. We use a range of strategies to assist students to take responsibility for their own learning and behaviour. We deliver differentiated learning across year levels in accordance with the Australian National Curriculum. We also offer a variety of extra-curricular opportunities in areas such as music, sports and STEM, which can add value to the classroom learning experience.
Our Charter of Excellence sets a framework for expectations of students, as well as teachers and support staff. These expectations, our vision and our intention to involve parents and the broader community in the life of the school underpins the charter. We endeavour to communicate effectively with our whole community and hope that parents will be engaged in their child's learning journey.
Learn in partnership
Our P&C (Parents & Community) Association have a long history of contributing economically to school operations and facilities. The efforts of the Association are invaluable and offer parents practical ways to support fundraising initiatives for investment back into school programs and resources. We operate a Helping Hands parent volunteer program and encourage able parents to contribute time and effort in the classroom where appropriate.
Also consistent with the school's philosophy of educating tolerant global citizens, Edge Hill has an established international student program. We aim to provide positive educational experiences to these students and their families and are known for the high level of support and care delivered. Accredited through Education Queensland International, we welcome learners on long-term, dependent student and tourist visas. Students from a variety of countries have flourished while attending our school. We have welcomed children from Japan, China, Korea, Vietnam, Germany, Russia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Thailand, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea and the United States of America.
