Procedures for drop off and collection of students

Stop Drop and Go Zones
Our Safe School Travel Committee is responsible for the safety of students in transit and the efficiency of school drop off and collection procedures. They work collaboratively with Cairns Regional Council External link, Queensland Police Service External link and Queensland Department of Main Roads and Transport External link
The committee responds to changes in traffic conditions around our school and in 2020 have enacted plans to ensure the health of our community through measures including staggered collection times and social distancing.

For the safety of our students and staff, please follow all road signs and recommended speed limits in the vicinity of the school.

Tips to make the most of Stop Drop and Go
  • Please do not park and exit your car
  • Display a visor sign with your child's surname
  • Remind your child to listen for their name and watch for their car whilst waiting for pick up
  • Communicate to your child and the school office if they need to be picked up at a different gate than usual
  • Remain with your vehicle
  • Be conscious of road rules when entering and exiting the Stop Drop and Go zones, particularly in relation to U-turns
  • Instruct your child not to approach a vehicle while it is moving
  • Only drop off and pick up from the front two bays at the Russell Street Stop Drop and Go
A reminder about Pedestrian Safety
When driving or riding in Queensland, you must:
  • give way to pedestrians who are on or entering children’s, pedestrian or marked foot crossings
  • give way to pedestrians who are on or entering a road you’re turning into
  • give way to pedestrians in a shared zone or slip lane
  • travel at a speed allowing you to stop safely at a crossing if needed
  • prepare to stop if you see another vehicle or bicycle stop, or slow down near a crossing
