As part of ‘The Arts’ curriculum, all students from Prep through Year 6 have Music lessons for 30 minutes per week. The focus of these lessons is to build on students’ understanding of the elements of music through singing, listening, playing instruments and having fun with music. Music literacy is at the core of these classes with students of all ages reading and writing music appropriate to their abilities.

Music lessons provide younger students the opportunity to hone their singing and pitch perception through Solfa singing and to learn the basics of rhythm reading through rhythm syllables such as ‘ta’ and ‘ti-ti’. Older students further their musical understanding through theory and composition, studies of famous composers’ works and instrumental study on the recorder, keyboard or guitar.

Students may wish to participate in any of a number of extra-curricular music clubs, including ukelele, percussion and junior and senior choirs. These groups meet either before school or during lunch breaks on a weekly timetable. Participation in these ensembles is voluntary, however those who participate will enrich their curricular music experience and develop a number of skills, including performance practice.

When possible the school endeavours to provide further performance experiences to students of all ages. Our musical productions may engage whole year groups or they can be productions cast by audition for multi-age groups. These productions are sometimes rehearsed after school hours so parent support is vital.

Our extra-curricular Instrumental Music Program is highly regarded with spaces being offered to students who are identified as having interest and musical aptitudes. The Strings program is offered to students from Year 3 and Brass/ Woodwind program for students from Year 5. A requirement for students in the Instrumental Music Program is participation in String Ensembles and Concert Bands providing students a chance to further develop music and performance skills.​​
