Performance and achievements

Netball Cairns Marlin Coast Cup 2020

Believing as we do that Challenge + Support = Growth, it is no surprise that our school offers many ways for students to perform and achieve, whatever their interests.

From our Edge Academy programs in music and STEM to student clubs, extra-curricular instrumental music opportunities and participation at school and district level sporting competition, every child, every day, can be learning and succeeding at our school.

In 2019-2020 our students and staff rehearsed, trained and practiced for countless hours, mostly in their own time, to achieve some great outcomes. Activities like these not only deliver our school awards and recognition, they also deliver on our commitment to educate the whole child and provide learning experiences both in and out of the classroom.

Teams as well as individual 10-12 year old students from EHSS are able to compete at School, District, Regional and sometimes State level sporting competitions in a range of codes including, Basketball, Hockey, Soccer, Tennis, Netball, Cross Country, Athletics, Tri and Aquathlon.

An Edge school team represented at the Trinity Coast Central Schools Athletics Competition and were awarded 2019 Overall Champions.

Members of our 2019 Triathlon Academy program competed in the Cairns IRONKIDS event, part of the IRONMAN Asia-Pacific Championship. Our collaboration with Will Swim and Tri over several years while this academy was operational is an example of the cooperative partnerships we share with our broader community.

In 2020 an Edge soccer team participated in the Jamie Gosling Football Academy (JGFA) FNQ Schools Title, coming in third place after a win in the inaugural event in 2019. The JGFA is another sporting organisation that our school shares a positive relationship with and which directly benefits our students.

Our Boys AFL team took the Championship Trophy in the Cairns area competition of the 2020 AFL Schools Cup.

A representative team from our school has taken home the Grand Final at the Netball Cairns Marlin Coast Cup Carnival annually in 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017.

Many of the teams that represent us in events such as the AFL Schools Cup and Marlin Coast Cup are coached by our own staff members who possess both passion and years of experience playing and coaching their respective sports. The commitment of these teachers to train and work with our students outside school hours is one of many reasons we enjoy the successes we do.

Students who participate in our Edge STEM Academies and those with interest across all year levels have chances throughout the year to participate in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths related events and competitions including;
