At Edge Hill State School, we believe in empowering our students to become leaders, both within and beyond the school gates. Our student leadership program provides a platform for students to develop essential skills, foster a sense of responsibility, and contribute positively to the school community. The Student Leadership team is comprised of:

School Captains: Leading with Excellence
  • Students aspiring to be School Captains go through a rigorous selection process involving criteria writing and support from staff.
  • Shortlisted candidates present speeches to the Upper school, followed by a democratic voting process.
  • Four School Captains are elected, embodying the values of leadership, responsibility, and trust.
Physical Education Captains: Promoting Health and Fitness
  • Their role is to inspire fellow students to prioritize physical well-being and contribute to creating a school culture that values fitness.
  • Students are chosen based on their passion for physical education through a selective process involving input from PE teachers and staff.

House Captains: Fostering Team Spirit
  • Aligned with our four Sporting Houses – Red Dragons, Green Gryphons, Blue Giants, and Purple Serpents – House Captains support staff and students in promoting a sense of camaraderie and healthy competition.
  • Through a thorough screening process, students are selected to lead their respective houses, contributing to a vibrant and spirited school culture.

Music Captains: Harmonizing Talents
  • Students engaged in String, Instrumental and Choral Music programs have the opportunity to apply for leadership positions.
  • The selection process, involving input from past and present teachers as well as Music teachers, ensures that Music Captains bring both musical talent and leadership qualities to their roles.

Japanese Captains: Embracing Cultural Leadership
  • Students interested in Japanese language and culture can apply for the position of Japanese Captains.
  • The screening process involves collaboration with past and present teachers, as well as Japanese language educators, to select students who can represent and promote Japanese culture within the school community.

STEM Captains: Inspiring Innovation
  • Students with a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) have the opportunity to apply for STEM Captain positions.
  • Through a comprehensive screening process involving input from past and present teachers, as well as STEM educators, students are selected to drive interest and excellence in STEM fields.

Student Councillors: Representing Every Voice
  • Students interested in representing their peers apply for the position of Student Councillor, delivering short speeches to their classmates.
  • Through a democratic voting process, two representatives are chosen from each year 4-5 class and one from each year 6 class, ensuring diverse voices are heard.

Student Council: Shaping the Future Together
  • The Student Council, comprising all leaders and councillors, serves as a platform for students to express ideas and address concerns.
  • Two main goals are set each year – a community goal and an environmental goal – allowing students to actively contribute to the betterment of the school and the broader community.

At Edge Hill State School, our student leadership program aims to instil a sense of purpose, responsibility, and community engagement in every student. Through these diverse leadership roles, we nurture the leaders of tomorrow, ensuring they are equipped with the skills and mindset to make a positive impact on the world.
