Health and Physical Education
The Key Learning Area of “Health & Physical Education” is an integral and important part of the school curriculum. Students from Prep to Year 6 participate in one 30 minute lesson of Physical Education per week throughout the year. An important emphasis for this learning area is "movement skills".
The aim of Physical Education lessons is to engage students through involvement in a variety of sports including volleyball, netball, hockey, athletics and gross motor skills. In Terms 1 and 4 our students make full use of our swimming pool facilities. Special attention is given to the area of “learn to swim” in the junior years and “stroke development and correction” for swimming in the middle and senior years.
Students engage in explicitly taught lessons to improve their knowledge, understanding and skills in these sports. For those students with an interest in extending their sports participation, extra-curricular opportunities are supported and made available at our school.
Annual whole school events such as Cross Country and Athletics Carnival encourage participation and sportsmanship as well as developing physical skills. Students with a keen interest in these events can join after school training activities in preparation and those who excel at school level may go on to represent our school at regional and state level competitions.
Senior students of our school have long participated in Friday afternoon inter-school sporting activities. Students can select from a number of sports, inlcuding but not limited to, AFL, soccer and basketball. We are fortunate to be in close proximity to a number of local sporting clubs with whom we enjoy good relations. Such clubs are assisted to visit the school pre-season to offer clinics or address assemblies and encourage participation.
